Key Highlights
  • 1Anand Deverakonda delivers a convincing performance as Aditya, with his innocence and comic timing becoming one of the film’s biggest strengths.
  • 2The family portions featuring Shivaji and Vasuki work better than the central romantic track, while Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music adds support.
  • 3The film’s biggest weakness is its screenplay, which takes too long to reach a predictable emotional payoff despite having an engaging premise.
Fact-Checked by Krihaa Editorial

Epic follows Aditya, a young man from Wanaparthy who dreams of becoming a filmmaker despite his father Chandrasekhar, a government teacher, wanting him to focus on a more stable career. His parents eventually send him to the UK, hoping that education and financial independence will give him a better future. His life takes an unexpected turn after Kadali enters it, forcing him to confront questions about love, ambition, personal happiness and family responsibility. Directed by Aditya Hasan, the film stars Anand Deverakonda, Vaishnavi Chaitanya, Shivaji and Vasuki in key roles. The opening portions are pleasant, particularly the family scenes before Aditya leaves for the UK. The film also gets emotional during some of its later family sequences, while the UK locations add visual appeal. Anand Deverakonda is one of the film’s strongest assets, bringing innocence, humour and vulnerability to Aditya. His chemistry with Vaishnavi Chaitanya also works, while Vaishnavi balances performance and glamour effectively. Shivaji and Vasuki make their family portions engaging, and Hesham Abdul Wahab’s songs and background score add further support.

The major weakness lies in the central relationship and the screenplay built around it. The film takes considerable time to establish what it wants to communicate through Aditya and Kadali, and the lack of clarity makes their track feel routine in several portions. By the time the film reaches its climax, the answer to the central question is fairly predictable, making the extended build-up feel unnecessary. The production values are solid, with the UK locations captured well by cinematographer Azeem Mohammed. Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music and score help maintain the film’s emotional tone, although the editing by Naveen Nooli could have been tighter in the slower stretches. Aditya Hasan shows promise in handling emotional moments and a few deeper scenes, but stronger writing for the lead characters could have elevated the overall impact. Epic ultimately delivers a handful of enjoyable family and emotional moments, supported by sincere performances, but its uneven central narrative prevents it from becoming a consistently engaging drama. Krihaa.com Rating: 2.75/5.
