Centre Raises Telangana Rice Procurement by 8 Lakh Metric Tonnes

The Central Government has approved an increase of 8 lakh metric tonnes in rice procurement from Telangana for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025–26, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy announced. With this decision, the procurement target has been raised from 35 lakh metric tonnes to 43 lakh metric tonnes of rice, equivalent to nearly 64 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. Kishan Reddy said the decision followed a meeting held on July 8 with Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi, where BJP MPs and MLAs from Telangana sought a higher procurement quota considering the state's expected paddy output.

Kishan Reddy thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi for responding positively to the request and said the decision would benefit Telangana farmers. He also urged the state government to fully utilise the enhanced quota by completing procurement efficiently and supplying rice to the Food Corporation of India within the stipulated timeline. He alleged that the state had delayed deliveries in previous procurement seasons and called on the government to avoid further delays in meeting its commitments.
