Subhalekha Sudhakar plays Rajarao, a man nearing retirement whose rigid and troublesome behaviour creates constant problems for his daughter-in-law Priya. Frustrated by his attitude, Priya decides to seek a divorce from her husband and discusses the matter with her parents. However, instead of simply walking away, she joins hands with her mother-in-law Lalitha to teach Rajarao a lesson. The consequences of their plan form the central conflict of the film.

Context & Performances

Subhalekha Sudhakar is one of the film’s strongest aspects. He fits naturally into the role of a strict and old-fashioned family elder and brings the required intensity to the character. Bhramarambika also performs well as Priya, portraying a young woman struggling with the constant difficulties created by her father-in-law.

Anvith and Rajashree Nair also make a decent impression in their respective roles. However, the writing does not provide the performers with enough material to create a stronger emotional impact.

The biggest drawback is the predictable treatment. The basic premise feels familiar, and many of the situations unfold in an expected manner. The proceedings lack the energy needed to keep viewers engaged, while the comedy fails to generate enough laughs. The climax, which attempts to introduce an emotional angle, does not blend naturally with the rest of the narrative.

Technically, Sarikothaga is fairly decent. The production values are adequate, while Sai Madhukar’s music, Ganganamoni Shekhar’s cinematography and Sandeep Bandla’s editing support the film without standing out significantly.

Compared with Vara Mullapudi’s earlier short films from the Katha Sudha series, Sarikothaga feels weaker in terms of content and execution. The film has a relatable family setup and capable performances, particularly from Subhalekha Sudhakar and Bhramarambika, but the routine storytelling prevents it from becoming an engaging watch.

Overall, Sarikothaga is a passable family drama that struggles to make a lasting impression because of its flat narration, familiar situations and weak climax.
