Raaka: Allu Arjun Film May Release in Two Parts

When a film is being built around an unusually large production scale, the bigger question is sometimes not when it will release, but whether one film can contain everything the makers have planned. That appears to be the situation with Raaka, the upcoming Allu Arjun–Atlee collaboration produced by Sun Pictures. Reports indicate that the makers are considering splitting the project into two theatrical parts, with the first part potentially targeting December 2027 and the second arriving in 2028.

The two-part possibility is not an entirely new development. India Today reported in July that Raaka was being planned as a two-part franchise spanning two different worlds and timelines, while NDTV Profit also reported that the project was being considered in two parts. Neither report represented the release dates as officially confirmed.

Context and Official Statements

Raaka has been positioned as a technically ambitious production from the beginning. The film, earlier known as AA22xA6, was officially titled Raaka in April 2026. Sun Pictures is producing the film, with Atlee directing and Allu Arjun in the lead.

The production recently gained international attention after a sequence involving 37 performers simultaneously captured in real time earned a Guinness World Record for the “Most People Motion-Captured in Real-Time.” Sun Pictures released behind-the-scenes material showing how the sequence was created.

The reported cast includes Deepika Padukone, Rashmika Mandanna, Mrunal Thakur and Janhvi Kapoor in important roles. Aishwarya Lekshmi has also been listed among the cast by some entertainment databases.

The interesting part of the two-film discussion is not simply the possibility of getting two Raaka releases. It shows how Indian big-budget filmmaking is increasingly being designed as a long-form cinematic property rather than a single theatrical product.

Raaka already has the ingredients of a production that requires substantial post-production time: large-scale motion capture, extensive visual effects and an ensemble cast spread across different narrative settings. A two-part structure could therefore be a storytelling decision as much as a commercial one. If the story genuinely requires separate narrative arcs, dividing it could give Atlee more room to establish the world instead of compressing major portions into one runtime.

There is also a strategic advantage for Sun Pictures. Two theatrical releases create two separate marketing cycles, two rounds of music and promotional campaigns, and potentially two separate downstream windows for satellite and streaming exploitation. But that model carries its own risk: the first part must deliver enough narrative satisfaction while still creating a strong reason to return for the second.

For now, the December 2027 and 2028 dates should be treated as reported plans rather than confirmed release dates. The more important milestone may be the eventual official announcement explaining whether Raaka is being divided because of the story itself or because the production has grown beyond the practical limits of a single film.
