Some films need a long runway before the cameras can roll, and NTR and Trivikram Srinivas’ next project appears to be taking that route. The mythological drama, popularly being referred to as God of War, is expected to enter regular production toward the end of January 2027, according to the latest industry reports. The makers officially announced the NTR-Trivikram reunion in June 2026, presenting the project as a mythology-inspired film built around divine and action-driven elements.

NTR is expected to play Lord Subramanya Swamy, also known as Kartikeya or Murugan. The project is being designed on a large scale, with action sequences, extensive visual effects and a specially developed visual identity for the protagonist. NTR is currently committed to Dragon, directed by Prashanth Neel, and is expected to complete that project before moving fully into Trivikram’s film.

Context and Official Statements

The June announcement gave the clearest indication of the film’s mythological foundation. NTR described the character through the words, “The Son of Shiva. The Pride of Parvathi. The Eternal Commander,” while the announcement material carried the line “One Spear, One Purpose… One Divine Reckoning.” The visual featured a spear and trident motif, reinforcing the project’s divine-warrior theme.

The film is being produced jointly by S. Radha Krishna under Haarika & Hassine Creations and Nandamuri Kalyan Ram under NTR Arts. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music. While several production details remain under wraps, reports indicate that the team is spending substantial time on script development, visual design, graphics and world-building before production begins.

The January schedule is significant because the production is being treated less like a conventional star vehicle and more like a world-building project. Trivikram’s biggest challenge here is not simply adapting mythology for a modern audience; it is creating a visual grammar that makes a divine character believable on a pan-Indian screen without reducing the material to costume-driven spectacle.

That places unusual importance on pre-production. With NTR portraying a deity associated with warfare, the character’s physical design, weapon choreography, VFX and performance style will have to work together. A rushed shoot could expose inconsistencies that are difficult to repair later, whereas a carefully designed production pipeline can establish the visual language before expensive action and VFX work begins.

There is also a career-level shift for Trivikram. His previous films have largely operated within contemporary commercial drama, family entertainment and action territory. A mythology-led production gives him an opportunity to expand that storytelling vocabulary into a world where scale, symbolism and visual storytelling carry as much weight as dialogue. For NTR, meanwhile, the project continues a run of increasingly large-scale roles, but with a completely different performance challenge: portraying an already culturally established divine figure rather than inventing a fictional mass hero.
