Core News and Key Facts

For Indian buyers, the iPhone 18 Pro launch is less about simply getting a new iPhone and more about deciding how much storage and which purchase route makes financial sense. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have gone on sale in India, with the starting prices moving firmly into premium territory.

The iPhone 18 Pro costs Rs 1,64,900 for the 256GB model. The 512GB version is priced at Rs 1,89,900, while the 1TB and 2TB variants cost Rs 2,39,900 and Rs 3,14,900 respectively.

The Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900 for 256GB. Its 512GB, 1TB and 2TB variants are priced at Rs 2,04,900, Rs 2,54,900 and Rs 3,29,900.

The phones are available through Apple's official website and stores, as well as Flipkart, Amazon, Zepto and other authorised retailers.

Context and Official Statements

Apple is attempting to soften the upfront cost through several financing and exchange options. Eligible American Express, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank cardholders can receive up to Rs 7,000 in instant cashback, while participating banks offer up to six months of No Cost EMI.

The Trade In programme can provide up to Rs 81,500 off when an eligible device is exchanged, although the final value depends on the model and condition of the phone.

Retailer-specific offers add another layer. Flipkart is offering an Rs 8,000 discount with a Flipkart Axis Bank credit card, while select Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI credit cards can provide discounts of up to Rs 7,000.

Apple is also bundling three months of Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade with the purchase.

At the headline price, the Pro Max sits in a segment where buyers may reasonably compare it with Samsung's Galaxy S-series Ultra models and premium foldables before committing.

Krihaa Analysis

The interesting consumer question is not whether the iPhone 18 Pro is expensive — the pricing makes that obvious. It is how the storage ladder changes the economics of the purchase.

The jump from 256GB to 512GB on the Pro is Rs 25,000, while moving from 512GB to 1TB costs another Rs 50,000. The jump to 2TB is even larger. For buyers who primarily stream content, use cloud storage and take conventional photos and videos, paying heavily for additional capacity may be harder to justify than it initially appears.

The trade-in offer also changes the calculation. A buyer with a relatively recent premium phone can potentially reduce the effective purchase price substantially, but the advertised maximum of Rs 81,500 should not be treated as a guaranteed discount. Actual value depends on the exchanged device.

For Hyderabad consumers in particular, the choice between Apple Store purchase, online retail and exchange programmes may therefore matter almost as much as the phone itself. Comparing the final checkout price after bank offers and trade-in value is more useful than comparing only the headline MRP.

The iPhone 18 Pro series is ultimately positioned as a high-cost upgrade, but the financing and exchange ecosystem means the actual amount paid can vary considerably from buyer to buyer.
