For many office workers, the keyboard is still the slowest part of an otherwise AI-powered workflow. Fireflies.ai is trying to change that with Talk, a voice-dictation feature designed to let users speak directly into the applications where they normally type. Instead of opening a separate transcription tool and copying the result, users can activate Talk with a keyboard shortcut and dictate text at the cursor.

Talk works across email, Slack, documents, AI prompts and CRM fields on Mac and Windows. The feature supports more than 100 languages, including Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and Bengali. It also automatically cleans up the transcription and inserts punctuation, so users can speak naturally rather than saying “comma” or “full stop” aloud.

Fireflies.ai has made Talk available across its plans, including the free tier. The company’s existing AI Teammate platform focuses on recording and summarising meetings and managing follow-up tasks, while Talk extends the company’s voice capabilities into everyday typing.

The most useful part of Talk for Indian users may be its multilingual support rather than the basic voice-to-text function itself. Telugu-speaking professionals, for example, can dictate messages or notes without having to switch keyboards or manually type Telugu text. In Slack, users can also say a colleague’s or group’s name and have it converted into the corresponding @mention.

Fireflies says dictation remains on the user’s device, while audio is sent for transcription. The company says completed text is not stored or used to train its AI models. It also states that Talk meets SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA requirements.

The current version is deliberately limited: it performs voice dictation rather than acting as a full voice-controlled computer assistant. Fireflies says it is working toward capabilities that could let users search for information, interact with their screens and take actions through voice. Talk is currently available through the company’s desktop application, with iOS support planned before Android.

For Telugu users, multilingual support could be an even more significant differentiator. Indian professionals frequently switch between English and regional languages during work. If transcription quality handles that mixed-language reality reliably, voice could become a more natural interface for everyday workplace communication.

But the next stage will determine whether Talk becomes a productivity tool or simply another dictation utility. The real test is whether Fireflies can move from converting speech into text to safely understanding intent and completing actions. That future is more ambitious than Talk’s current feature set, and the company has not yet delivered it.
