DC Box Office Day 12: Film Slows Down After New Release

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut DC has slowed at the box office during its second week, with the film facing strong competition from Suriya-starrer Vishwanath & Sons. On its second Tuesday, DC earned ₹1.81 crore at the India box office, a slight decline from its ₹2 crore collection on the previous day.

With the latest figure, DC’s India net collection has reached ₹58.57 crore after 12 days. The film has recorded an India gross of ₹69.11 crore, while its overseas gross stands at ₹21.50 crore. This takes its worldwide gross collection to ₹90.61 crore.

The film had opened on a positive note, collecting more than ₹4 crore on its first day. It ended its first week with an India net of ₹41.9 crore. However, its collections weakened after the opening week, apart from the boost it received around the Independence Day period.

The arrival of Vishwanath & Sons has added considerable pressure on DC’s theatrical run. The Suriya-led film has been performing strongly and is currently ahead of DC at the box office. Following its release, DC’s total number of theatrical showings was reportedly reduced by around half.

The available box office figures show a mixed second-week trend for DC. After collecting ₹2.86 crore on Day 8, the film recorded ₹5.5 crore on Day 9 and ₹4.5 crore on Day 10. The collection then dropped to ₹2 crore on Day 11 before reaching ₹1.81 crore on the second Tuesday.

According to the source report, DC is currently around ₹10 crore short of the ₹100 crore worldwide milestone. However, its domestic performance is considerably further away from the ₹100 crore India mark.

The current trend suggests that DC may struggle to cross ₹100 crore in India. With Vishwanath & Sons continuing its strong theatrical run, DC could lose additional screens during its third week, potentially putting further pressure on its daily collections.

At the current pace, the film is expected to finish its India theatrical run below ₹70 crore. The report also projects that DC could end the year as the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film, behind Jana Nayagan, Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons.
