The state government has extended the deadline for submitting applications for new Cheyutha social security pensions by another day, allowing eligible applicants to submit their forms until 5 PM on Wednesday.

The scheduled deadline had ended on Tuesday. However, the government decided to provide additional time after three consecutive holidays affected the application process. The extension was made following directions from Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D. Seethakka.

According to officials, 5.78 lakh applications have been received across the state so far. SERP CEO Divya Devarajan has issued instructions to district officials regarding the extended deadline.

Context and Official Statements

The latest extension follows an earlier increase in the application window. The original deadline was extended to September 15 after eligible applicants, particularly those facing documentation and process-related difficulties, sought additional time.

The Cheyutha application process has been aimed at bringing new beneficiaries into the state's social security pension system. Earlier reports said the government had planned to sanction 2.5 lakh new pensions, while applications were coming in at a substantially higher level.

The additional extension therefore does not mean that every applicant will automatically receive a pension. Applications still have to undergo verification, after which eligible beneficiaries will be identified according to the applicable rules. Reports indicate that verification is being planned before the beneficiary list is finalised.
