India enjoyed a productive September 29 at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, with shooting delivering gold and silver while boxing added another medal and two finalists.
The latest live medal count puts India at 48 medals five gold, 21 silver and 22 bronze with several athletics medal events still to come.
Neeru Dhanda Wins Gold in Women's Trap
Neeru Dhanda delivered India's biggest result of the day by winning the women's trap individual gold medal.
The result gave India its fifth gold medal of the Asian Games 2026.
It was also a particularly significant achievement because Neeru's victory was reported as India's first individual gold medal of this edition of the Games, with the country's earlier gold medals coming in team or doubles events.
Neeru had already contributed to India's medal tally earlier in the day.
Women's Trap Team Wins Silver
Neeru Dhanda, Manisha Keer and Aashima Ahlawat combined to secure silver in the women's trap team event.
The medal opened India's account for the day before Neeru returned for the individual competition and upgraded her personal campaign with gold.
Shooting has therefore delivered two medals for India on September 29 alone.
Ankush Panghal Reaches Boxing Final
India received another boost in boxing as Ankush Panghal advanced to the men's 80kg final.
He defeated Uzbekistan's Fazliddin Erkinboev in the semifinal.
The result ensures Ankush will compete for the Asian Games gold medal in his next bout.
Parveen Also Into Final
Parveen continued India's strong boxing campaign in the women's 65kg category.
She defeated China's Li Shu in the semifinal to advance to the gold-medal bout.
With Parveen and Ankush both progressing, India now has two more opportunities to convert assured boxing medals into gold.
Narender Takes Bronze
Narender's campaign in the men's +90kg category ended in the semifinals.
He was defeated by Kazakhstan's Aibek Oralbay and consequently finished with the bronze medal.
That result helped lift India's overall medal count to 48.
India Beat Qatar in Volleyball
India also recorded a hard-fought result in men's volleyball.
The Indian team defeated Qatar 3-2 in its Pool C encounter.
Although the match did not directly add to the medal tally, the result provided another positive moment in India's September 29 campaign.
India's Medal Tally Reaches 48
Following the latest results, India's medal count stands at:
Gold: 5
Silver: 21
Bronze: 22
Total: 48
India is reported in 12th position in the latest medal standings.
The tally remains provisional because multiple medal events are still scheduled later in the day.
Big Athletics Session Still to Come
India's medal prospects now shift heavily towards athletics.
The final session includes multiple Indian athletes across jumping, throwing, middle-distance, long-distance and relay events.

5:47 PM – Men's 4x400m Relay Final
India concludes a packed athletics schedule with another medal opportunity.
Gulveer Singh Eyes Third Medal
Gulveer Singh will be one of the biggest Indian names to watch during the evening session.
He has already collected two medals at the Asian Games 2026 and will compete alongside Avinash Sable in the men's 5000m final.
The race begins at 4:45 PM IST.
Another podium finish would give Gulveer three medals at this edition of the Asian Games.
Relay Teams Offer Three More Opportunities
India will also feature in three relay finals.
The mixed 4x100m team competes at 5:18 PM, followed by the women's 4x400m at 5:35 PM and men's 4x400m at 5:47 PM.
That makes the final hour of the athletics programme particularly important for India's overall medal count.
Krihaa Analysis
September 29 has already produced an important improvement to India's Asian Games campaign.
Neeru Dhanda's trap gold stands out not only because it increased India's gold tally but because it was reported as the country's first individual gold of these Games.
Boxing has also strengthened India's position. Parveen and Ankush Panghal have reached finals, while Narender has added a bronze medal.
But the day's medal story is far from finished.
The concentration of athletics finals between 2:50 PM and 5:47 PM gives India several opportunities to add to its current tally of 48.
The men's 5000m will command particular attention because Gulveer Singh already has two medals and now has an opportunity to complete a three-medal campaign.
With individual events and three relay finals still on the programme, India's medal count could change quickly during the evening session.
